This is Khadija, 14 Years Old
She lives in Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
Nine years ago her father died from cancer leaving her mother, Tajema to care for Khadija and her eight year old sister, Shirin.
Shortly after her husband’s passing, Tajema was struck from behind by a bicycle, hitting her right thigh. Because of this, she could not walk without the aid of crutches.
But this wasn’t the only health concern the family faced. Khadija and her sister had both contracted polio when they were younger, and this meant both had lost control of their lower limbs. Simple, everyday tasks were made difficult, and the girls only had access to one wheelchair between them.
Travelling to and from school become almost impossible and as a result their education suffered.
With all three family members being handicapped, life became a huge struggle.
Now, thanks to sponsorship from Orphans in Need, all of this has changed…
One year ago, Orphans in Need found the family a sponsor.
Now they receive a food parcel each month, much needed medical attention and their school transport fees are covered.
This means the family are happier and less stressed.
The sisters are both happy to be back at school and Khadija hoping to become a teacher one day.
