THE POWER OF ONLINE
SADAQAH DONATIONS
There are benefits to online Sadaqah donations, and this form of charity is becoming increasingly popular. Not only does it ensure that you are donating every day during Ramadan or during the last 10 days, but it also allows you to have more time to do other acts of worship, knowing that your charity has already been scheduled to be donated if you choose an automated donation.
A benefit of this method of charity is that you choose a specific time frame to donate in. The last 10 days of Ramadan are very important to give charity, and many Muslims give increased charity in these days. This is because Laylatul Qadr falls on one of the last 10 odd nights of the month, and this night is said to be better than a thousand months. Allah says in the Qur’an, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Qur’an, 97:3)
So, by scheduling online donations for these last 10 days, you will guarantee the rewards of this special night, Insha’Allah.
There are many fundraisers that happen all year round, including in Ramadan, and with the ease of online donations, you can donate within a few minutes once your details have been put in.
Importance of Sadaqah
Sadaqah, regardless of its form, is extremely virtuous. It can be in the form of a financial payment, a material donation, or even a smile.
There is a lot of emphasis on charity in Islam, with Zakat being compulsory, while Sadaqah and Lillah are voluntary but highly recommended.
The Prophet, upon him, be peace, said: “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Here are some forms of Sadaqah that you can do this Ramadan:
- Visit your neighbour – take them a cooked meal for Iftar or a cake and see how they are doing.
- Call in on the sick – even just phoning or messaging a sick person can make them happy.
- Volunteer in your local community – this could be at your local mosque, food bank, or care home.
- Share donation links with family and friends in Ramadan – if they donate, you will also get a reward for this.
- Offer to make Iftar for your family and friends – you can host an Iftar at your house or plan one to take place in the Masjid.
Feeding the fasting holds so many rewards –
Allah’s Beloved, peace be upon him, said, “Allah (SWT) will give you the reward of feeding a fasting person even if you were to give him just a sip of milk, a date, or a sip of water. He who feeds a fasting person until he is full, Allah (SWT) will make him drink out of my river, a sip of which will never allow him to be thirsty until he enters Jannah.”
In a hadith about charity, Muhammad, upon him be peace, said: “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim)
